The problem is that kB is encrypted using a function of your Firefox Account password: if someone can guess or intercept your password, then he can decrypt kB and then decrypt any synced data. Your synced data is encrypted with a 256-bit key kB. > Could you expand a bit on why it is insecure Firefox Sync is unacceptable for password storage (as is every other sync system of which I'm aware). But when they revised the protocol they destroyed its security. I ran my own sync server for years, and was very happy with it. What really hurts is that Firefox used to have great sync security. > And Firefox is perhaps the only browser that allows hosting your own sync and auth servers without having build your own copies of the browser. Sure, but that doesn't protect you against a single bad employee or against any government which Mozilla is subject to. > But at least Mozilla has a history of standing for the consumer and protecting user rights. Sneaking a trojan into code which is visible to the world is hard sneaking a trojan into a single targeted response is easy. There's a difference between trusting code at a point in time and trusting every single response ever. > But hey, you'd still be running Mozilla's code in and as your browser. And you must still use a high-entropy, unmemorable password. Only a server which you physically control - if it's in the cloud, it could be tampered with without your knowledge. However, I notice it mainly in text input fields, not necessarily drop down combo boxes.> Then host your own Firefox-Auth-Server and Firefox-Sync-Server. However, I a running Arch Linux with the latest KDE Plasma5 and what appears to be the same issue still exists. The following question claim this closely related issue was a bug that was fixed: (Temporary workaround is to highlight the text in a field so I can see what was entered, but that is very clumsy.) Gtk-cursor-theme-name=ComixCursors-Opaque-OrangeĪfter all of this, Firefox text input fields still have either white text on a white background or dark text on a dark background, making them impossible to read. It should not be necessary, but I have also installed. Settings->Workspace Theme -> Desktop Theme: Breeze Dark To enable breeze-dark for KDE I have: Settings->Application Style-> Widget Style: Breeze I am not aware of any Adwaita-dark icon theme after extensive searching. Settings -> Application Style -> Gnome Application Style (GTK): I have: Settings -> colors -> options -> apply colors to non-Qt applications enabled In particular, in text input fields in Firefox, one ends up with white text on a white background or dark text on a dark background. Unfortunately, some gnome apps (such as Firefox) are problematic.
